For the planner

What we tell the agencies we build this journey for

Who it's for

Experienced drivers with time, who want to see Patagonia end to end on both sides of the Andes rather than fly between its highlights.

Why it works

  • Two nights wherever there is something to do on foot or on the water, one night where the road is the point.
  • The route never doubles back: north to south, crossing the Andes three times.
  • Four nights in Torres del Paine leave room for the weather.

Good to know

  • A one-way rental with three border crossings: the car needs cross-border permits for Chile and Argentina, arranged in advance.
  • Much of the Carretera Austral and parts of the Ruta 40 are gravel.

Every journey here is a starting point.
