Daily Departures: from Salta or Jujuy
Duration:Can be adapted to your needs and combined with visit to the Salta and Jujuy regions.
Optional: Fiesta del Carnaval, one of the most traditional celebrations of the Andes which expresses the blending of Spanish and Indian cultures. Two weeks of dancing and folklore, typical dress, foods and drinks. Normally in February or March (depending on the date of Easter Week ). Easter Week: also a mixture of Christian and ancient Indian religions. The Procesión de la Virgen de Punta Corral in Tumbaya and Tilcara (Humahuaca) is the most spectacular event due to the presence of over 20 typical musical groups. La Fiesta de la Pachamama (mother earth celebration) on August 1st expresses one of the oldest rituals of the Andes, where offerings and sacrifices are made to the mother earth. The Toreo de Casabindo, is the only bullfighting that exists today in Argentina. The animals are not hurt and the skill of the bullfighter (usually improvised ) is measured by his ability to grab a bag of coins placed between the bull's horns.
Santa Rosa and the Fiesta del Suri: a rain god celebration on August 30th where the "Suri"( an Andean ostrich) is personified.
