No trip to Argentina is complete without experiencing our nation’s famous sport. Nowadays Buenos Aires has become one of the most interesting Cities in the world to enjoy a professional Polo Match. Puesto Viejo Estancia and Polo Club is set in the stunning surroundings of the Argentine countryside, and we are ready to Experience a Polo Day at Puesto Viejo

experience-a-polo-day-at-puesto-viejo-4We are already sitting on a minibus that will take us to a 250 acre estancia located less than an hour from Buenos Aires city. Puesto Viejo combines a Boutique Hotel, Polo Club and a Clubhouse where the Argentine countryside can be experienced at its very best. Tourists looking for a relaxing estancia holiday or polo lovers wanting to develop their skills, find in Puesto Viejo the great escape.

experience-a-polo-day-at-puesto-viejo-5The land used to be part of a big, traditional cattle farm called La Primavera, known for its innovative farming technology and being amongst the firsts lands sold by the Argentine government. With great love for Polo, the Argentine and British couple, Jeremy and Liliana Forrester-Baker, bought the land in 2003 and turned it into the exceptional boutique hotel and polo club it is today.
experience-a-polo-day-at-puesto-viejoAt Puesto Viejo we were able to experience closely what’s to be a Polo Player for a day. We had a Polo Lesson, watched a match from the Terrace of the Polo Club and had a great lunch surrounded by beautiful views of the Estancia.

experience-a-polo-day-at-puesto-viejo-2experience-a-polo-day-at-puesto-viejo-3We had a 3 steps lunch, for appetizers we had some traditional “meat empanadas”, offals, a selection of meat cuts accompanied by potatoes and salads. Near the end, after a little rest, we had dessert and a cup of coffee. After lunch some got on the horses and played some Polo while others wanted to go horseback riding through the estancia.

If you want to practice or play Polo for the first time like some of us did, the club offers everything a player needs: 5 professional, well maintained, boarded and irrigated polo pitches; a stick and ball pitch; individual and group corrals; 400 metre exercise track and arena; stables with 95 boxes and 50 hectares of turnout land.

A greater thing is that Polo Club is fully affiliated to the APP (Argentine Polo Association) and many local members keep and ride their horses on the property throughout the season. We were able to watch them as they performed their activities and it was great because, opportunities such as these don’t arise very often.

2 to 6 goals professional players are often based at the club alongside amateur club members. Practice matches are held four times a week, there are many opportunities for visitors to watch the game in a less crowded environment as some other Polo Estancias tend to offer.
